Undercliffe Cemetery was hit by thieves in the early hours of Sunday 29th April.
They broke into our tool store, situated in a fenced off compound, destroying locks, chains and the metal doors.
Our utility vehicle was badly damaged as they attempted to drive it off the site.
Registrar Andy Manning said “Small charities like ours always feel the cost very keenly. It’s not only a financial blow but a kick in the teeth to all the volunteers who give their time and energy for free.
As a cemetery we provide a valuable and important service to the local community. It is a place where, not only, loved ones are remembered, but it’s open to everyone, to enjoy the peace and quiet that this remarkable park has to offer. By the nature of the site were are vulnerable but encouraging people to visit us and support our activities is the best way to maintain this Grade II* Listed Heritage site. Mr. Manning reassured people that “the damage and thefts won’t affect any future services and we are heartened by the offers of help and messages of support in response to the incident. I would also appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact Bradford Police on 101 and quote Crime Ref No: 13180203300.
